Scenes from the interfaith rally held in Makati last Friday, Feb. 29th, 2008. From the outskirts of Paseo, Bianca and I actually managed to move to the very front of the stage and take photos. To wannabe activists like us, this was truly overwhelming (It was pegged at somewhere between 80,000 - 85,000 attendees). Flags and banners of every color danced all around us. People adorned themselves with stickers, buttons, shirts, and armbands of protest as badges of honor as they took the political battle to the streets. The speakers came from different sectors of society - student leaders, civil rights activists, cultural icons, and the Opposition. Far from a grim assembly, musicians got the crowd pumped in between speeches. Frankly, I was a little dazed and confused by it all, but when the real photographers next to us started firing their cameras, Biancs and I simply knew we needed to capture these moments as well.
